6 day Taste of Tasmania
Ai
3 March 2007
Day 1: Picked up from St. David Cathedral (two minutes walk from accommodation) at 6:25am. Several more to stop for pick ups, then went to their office for check in and payments. Once everything is done, we started our journey to Tasmanian first national park “Mount Field”. We walked through the “Tall tree walk” to the “Russel falls” and spotted “Tasmanian Pademellon”!! Then drove another two hours to Lake St. Clair which its Australian deepest fresh water lake and we had yummy lunch (Chicken and Veggie stir-fry with tortilla wraps and salad) After we all felt full, made our way to “Franklin River”. The water was so cold, nice and clear! Then we did about 40minutes of mountain walk and learnt a lot of rainforest trees. After that, we stopped at a couple more falls, got into Queenstown for a quick stop, then headed to our accommodation for stay at “Tullah”. Was so nice little place right next to lake and had nice dinner (Tomato sauce Spaghetti with bread roll and salad) at their restaurant over viewing the lakes.
Day 2: Started our day with canoeing on the beautiful lake straight after breakfast (Cereal, toast and juice) at 7 o’clock. It was best morning I’ve ever had!!! The lake was so stunning and you see the sky on the surface as it was just like mirror!! Such a peaceful experience! I didn’t want to leave but it was our time to go for good hike on Mt.Farrel. The walk was for about four and half hours and pretty hard one, but the stop at pretty “Lake Harvert” on top of the mountain was worth it! After that, we headed to “Strahan” for BBQ (beef patties, sausages, bread roll and salad) lunch, and went to learn about “Tasmanian Tiger”, Then went to “Sand Dune” for ATV (Optional cost $45- for 45 minutes) and played on lovely sands. By the time we went back to our accommodation (same as first night), it was around 7pm and had dinner (Chicken Parmegana, Veggie and Mash potato).
Day 3: This morning, we made Sandwich for lunch by ourselves after the breakfast and went for about two and half hours walk at “Lake Dove”. We were going to do another good four hours walk instead of that, but it rained over the night so decided not to for safety reason. That made us a bit of spare moment so Glen, our guide, suggested to go to “Mole creek caves” (extra cost $15- ) and it was so cool! The end of the tour, we saw amazing glow warms in the caves and it was just …WOW!!! Then we started to heading to “Devonport” with quick stop at Chocolate factory, OF COURSE we tasted yummy chocolates and fudges, It was our time to say Good Bye to our four friends as they were only doing 3 day west coast tour. Dinner with own cost this night but we decided to have it together as a group at hostel.
Day 4: Started our day at 7am to pick our new friends up from a couple of places and then went to have Breakfast at Glen’s favourite yummy bakery (own costs this morning too). We travelled through the town called “Launchestone”, the Tasmanian Boag’s beer town, and stopped at beautiful “Cataract Gorge”. The itinerary says going to Lavender farms this day, but it’s seasonal and it was off season unfortunately so we went to the gorge instead but it was lovely and I really love to have those park in Cairns!! Then we had quick stop at “Ledg wood war memorial” and “Derby River” for BBQ lunch (Beef steak, veggie stir-fry, salad and bread rolls). We had a bit of walk at falls after the lunch and I spotted “Echidna”!! First time in my life!!! :D Then we went to north cosy side of “Bay of Fire” and it is the best beach in the world I reckon!!! Sorry to white heave beach but it was just brilliant!! We played with balls and walked around the beach, kept taking photos (me of course!! rasberry), jumped in the water (freeeeeeeeezing!!), just never be enough there! We stayed at “Bicheno” this nite and went to “Night Penguin tour” with own costs ($20- ). Dinner was Glen’s special chicken apricot curry and we had Vanilla cake for desert as well (our own made too).
Day 5: We had free morning today and some slept in, some went walk around the town. I went to walk about, sat on nice huge rock right next to the ocean and watched sunrise. It was best way to start a day! Then we made own sandwich lunch again after breakfast (Toast, cereal and juice), then off we went about three hours good HARD walk to “Wine glass bay”. Again, it was WORTH it! Once we got to the beach, we had sandwich and settled a bit. Nobody went to swim as it was too cold, so walked back the same way and made our way to “Berry farms”. At there, we spoilt ourselves and had yummy berry ice-cream! Then we stopped at “Eagle Hawk neck Peninsula”, ”Dog line”, “Blow hole” and “Port Arthur” for the night. Had Barbequed Chicken kebabs, Potato bake and salad for dinner and went to optional “Port Arthur Ghost tour ($17- )”. It was really well done and to be honest, I jumped about a meter at one stage… Some of us didn’t take this option and stayed at accommodation, watched DVDs with some alcohol.
Day 6: Had a late start today and departed accommodation about 8:30 and went to explore the “Port Arthur”. The ticket includes Cruise for about 45 minutes as well. We could join the guided tour but all of us just went wonder the place by ourselves. When we got back to our accommodation, Glen had made us nice Spaghetti Bolognaise for lunch and we left the place straight after. Then went quick stop at another chocolate factory before we headed to ‘Tasmanian devil’s conviction wildlife park” (Extra $10- ). Tassie devils are cute actually and I have heard them crying too!!!
All after that, it was sadly our time to say good bye to all…
It was such a great time and Tassie is so peaceful place!!
