 A Cultural Ambassador

You are responsible for ensuring our clients have a positive and memorable experience in the Red Centre of Australia. Its hard work but extremely satisfying. Working in the great outdoors will also keep you fit and strong. Tour Guides must work with many different nationalities and personalities under ever-changing conditions. You need to build trust and friendship so an empathetic and flexible nature helps.

While on tour you will be away from your Alice Springs base for two to six days at a time. Weekends become a thing of the past. We have 7-day a week departures so you will be required to work weekends and public holidays. You do get days off between tours to relax and unwind.

Daily Duties include:

• Management and care of small tour groups
• Conducting guided interpretive walks of approximately 2-3hrs each day through Australia’s most spectacular landscapes
• Cooking and preparing all meals in basic campsites. Guests assist and participate in these activities (this includes cooking over gas and camp-oven cooking over a fire)
• Driving one of our fleet of 24 seat Mitsubishi Rosa buses, 21 seat Toyota Coaster buses and 16 seat Mitsubishi Cantor 4WD trucks
• Collecting firewood and preparing small fires
• Camping in permanent tents or swagging out under the stars
• Basic cleaning & tidying of camp sites and vehicle

The Itinerary

A typical 3 day itinerary includes:

Day 1: Alice Springs to Kata Tjuta & Uluru

Our adventure begins travelling to the Outback Camel Farm where passengers will get to ride a camel (at own expense), before continuing on to Uluru (Ayers Rock) viewing the unique scenery along the way. After lunch, we set out to explore the wonder of Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and hike the Valley of the Winds (2hrs). We return to watch the desert sun set over Uluru (Ayers Rock). After dinner at our permanent campsite, view the brilliance of the outback sky then curl up for the night in our tents or if you prefer, under the millions of stars in an authentic Aussie bedroll (swag). (LD)

Day 2: Uluru to Kings Canyon

An early start is required for one of the highlights of the tour - the Uluru sunrise. Enjoy a walk around the base (2hrs) exploring the mysterious rock formations and Aboriginal art sites while watching the changing light on the desert or you can choose to climb the rock. A visit to the Cultural Centre offers the chance to view and purchase Aboriginal arts and crafts. After lunch, we depart for Kings Canyon for our overnight camp and a great camp oven dinner. (BLD)

Day 3: Kings Canyon to Alice Springs

Climb and explore Kings Canyon (3hrs), viewing the impressive formations of the ‘Amphitheatre’, ‘The Lost City’, the picturesque ‘Garden of Eden’ and the breathtaking North and South Walls. After lunch we depart for Alice Springs, enjoying the rugged desert scenery along the way. (BL)
