World Youth Day Tours 2008
World Youth Day (WYD) comes to Sydney on 20 July 2008. It is an internationally significant gathering of young Catholic devotees, held every 3 years. Headlined by the Pope, WYD Sydney 2008 has already signed up 150,000 pilgrims from far parts of the world. Swelled by Aussie believers, the WYD Mass at Randwick Racecourse will approach one million worshippers to listen to Pope Benedict speak.
Some tips for incorporating travel in Australia with World Youth Day
Travel Early: May and June
Travellers are advised to book early for travel in the weeks prior and following WYD. Many pilgrims will extend their time to explore Australia and we recommend you come early and allow as long as you can to make the most of the journey to Australia. International airfares will only increase in price and flight availability will diminish in early July into Australia. The months of April, May and early June are MUCH cheaper to fly in. If it’s not obvious: getting organised now with your travel plans will save you money.
To make things easier for WYD travellers we have:
1. Special Departures: For Kakadu, Uluru and Tasmania, you can choose either the regular tours – or congregate towards our special WYD departures where you’ll travel with fellow pilgrims. (see below)
2. WYD Pilgrims Pass: Pilgrims traditionally make a big journey, and we have the perfect cross-continental route to offer, starting from Darwin and ending in Sydney (or vice-versa). The trail includes 5 tours and there are add-on options for tours to Kangaroo Island and Tasmania.
3. Group Charters: Many groups have booked their own chartered tours with us already, in particular for the Northern Territory and East Coast in the weeks following WYD. We still have the ability to accept more groups for before WYD and from 25 July onward. For full information about organising a a group charter
