Hump Day #47: Aussie rhyming slang

The Poms have their Cockney Rhyming Slang but over the journey the Aussies have developed a few their own.

Here’s a bit of a taste of how they may be used day-to-day:

• Got a flat tyre and missed my meeting – I had a Barry Crocker! (a shocker)

• The game is on the weekend so I might have a Captain Cook (have a look)  

• Gosh, I’m running a bit late, might have to hit the frog and toad (hit the road)

• Forget the mayonnaise and just pass me the dead horse (tomato sauce)

• Found a pineapple ($50 note) on the ground so put it in my sky rocket (pocket)

• I saw a Joe Blake (snake) so had to put on a fresh pair of Reg Grundies (undies)

• Having a quiet one in front of the telly on my Pat Malone (alone) tonight
