Itinerary

Day 1: Adelaide to Mt. Remarkable National Park expand collapse

Hit the road early, heading north on the first leg of your epic coast-to-coast journey. After crossing the sweeping plains of the Clare Valley, pull into Wallaroo on the Yorke Peninsula. The perfect spot to stretch your legs, breathe in the salt air, and feel your adventure begin.

Back on the road, we cruise along the coastline to Port Germein, a sleepy seaside town steeped in history. Take a walk along the 1,532-metre-long jetty, once the longest in the Southern Hemisphere, and grab a bite to eat.

By late afternoon, we reach Mount Remarkable National Park in the Southern Flinders Ranges. After setting up camp at Mambray Creek, lace up your boots for a bushwalk beneath ancient red gums and rugged sandstone ridges, home to abundant wildlife.

Share stories over dinner with your new travel crew. Then roll out your swag and settle in under a canopy of stars.

Accommodation: Swag camping with amenities at Mambray Creek Campground
Meals Included: Dinner
Distance Travelled: Approx. 320 km

Day 2: Mount Remarkable to the Eyre Peninsula expand collapse

Wake to the sounds of the bush. Kookaburras calling, leaves rustling, and the scent of morning campfire. After breakfast, hit the Davey’s Gully Hike, a gentle loop trail through native bushland with panoramic views over Spencer Gulf and the surrounding ranges.

From here, we continue west towards the Eyre Peninsula, rolling into the creative heart of the outback, Kimba. Known for its giant silo artwork and strong community spirit, this small outback town gives you a proper feel for regional Australia. Spend some time at Workshop26, a former tractor shed transformed into a buzzing arts collective. Meet the locals, hear their inspiring story, and maybe pick up a handcrafted souvenir.

Lunch today is packed with purpose, quite literally. Prepared by volunteers from the Kimba Hospital Auxiliary and Royal Flying Doctor Service support crew, this meal helps support vital healthcare services in remote SA.

As the day rolls on, the landscape shifts again as we reach the rugged coastline of the Eyre Peninsula. Huge dunes, long empty beaches, and salty ocean air replace the inland farmland.

By sunset, we arrive at Coodlie Park Farm Retreat, an off-grid eco-camp built by Untamed Escapes founders Craig and Cathy. It’s relaxed, rustic, and feels a long way from city life.

Settle in for a shared meal, then let the night sky steal the show. Join an optional stargazing tour, where zero light pollution reveals constellations, galaxies, and the raw wonder of a true outback sky.

Accommodation: Swag camping with amenities at Coodlie Park Farm Retreat
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Distance Travelled: Approx. 450 km

Day 3: Baird Bay and Penong expand collapse

Rise early for one of the most incredible experiences of the tour, an optional wildlife encounter at Baird Bay that’s equal parts heart-pounding and humbling. Heading out by boat into the sheltered bay, this experience takes you into the water for a truly wild swim with Australian sea lions and bottlenose dolphins. The sea lions are playful, curious, and incredibly fast in the water, often darting and spinning around the group, while dolphins cruise through the bay nearby. No feeding, no gimmicks, just you, the sea, and these intelligent, graceful creatures in their natural habitat. It’s wild Australia at its best.

Those staying on land can spend the morning relaxing around Baird Bay and soaking up the coastline before the group comes back together later in the day.

Lunch is included before we continue on to the afternoon’s surf session with Streaky Bay Surf School. With long empty beaches and very few crowds, this part of the Eyre Peninsula makes an incredible place to learn. Over the next two hours, hit the water with local instructors, whether it’s your first time standing on a board or you’re keen to improve your surfing. Not feeling it? No worries, relax, swim, or wander the shoreline at your own pace.

As the sun begins to dip, we roll into Penong, a quirky outback town known for its forest of windmills, big skies, and a relaxed pace of life, a fitting end to a day powered by wind, water, and wild encounters.

Accommodation: Swag camping with amenities at Penong Caravan Park
Meals Included: Breakfast (those swimming with sea lions will have lunch provided)
Distance Travelled: Approx. 400 km

Day 4: Nullarbor Plain expand collapse

Today, we begin our epic crossing of the mighty Nullarbor Plain. A vast, treeless wilderness that feels like another planet. Snap a photo at the famous camels, kangaroos, and wombats crossing sign, then watch the landscape shift as we cruise westward where the outback meets the ocean in jaw-dropping fashion.

Stop at the Bunda Cliffs, where the outback suddenly drops into the Southern Ocean. Standing at the edge with waves crashing far below gives you a real sense of just how massive and remote this part of Australia is.

Later, stop at the iconic Nullarbor Roadhouse to grab lunch. By late afternoon, cross the border into Western Australia, and that undeniable sense you’ve stepped into the wild west.

Tonight, we bush camp under one of the darkest skies in the world, our most remote camp of the trip. With no reception, no facilities, and no distractions, the night sky becomes your show.

Accommodation: Bush camping on the Nullarbor (no facilities)
Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner
Distance Travelled: Approx. 600 km

Day 5: Nullarbor to Cape Le Grand National Park expand collapse

Today, we hit one of Australia’s most legendary stretches of highway, the aptly named 90 Mile Straight, the longest, flattest, dead-straight road in the country. En route, we swing by the quirky outback towns of Balladonia and Norseman.

As the red earth rolls by, your guide will keep you entertained with fascinating tales of the region’s history, characters, and curiosities.

By afternoon, desert tones melt into a canvas of white sand and impossibly blue water as we enter the Esperance region. Cape Le Grand National Park is an absolute showstopper. Think perfect beaches, rugged granite peaks, and kangaroos lounging on the sand.

We set up camp at Lucky Bay, our home for the next two nights.

Distance travelled: Approximately 800 km
Accommodation: Swag camping with amenities at Lucky Bay Campground
Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 6: Cape Le Grand National Park expand collapse

Welcome to one of the most magical corners of Australia. With crystal-clear water, blindingly white sand, dramatic granite headlands, and the occasional sunbathing kangaroo, Cape Le Grand National Park is nature showing off.

This is your day to dive into paradise. No long drives, just pure exploration. Those keen for a challenge can lace up their hiking boots and tackle the iconic Frenchman Peak, a steep climb across granite slabs that ranks among the most rewarding of the journey. At the summit, you’ll be treated to huge views out across the islands of the Recherche Archipelago.

The rest of the day is yours to uncover the park’s wonders at your own pace. Swim in turquoise bays, wander bush trails bursting with life, or simply relax on the sand with nowhere else to be.

As the sun drops, we return to camp for another relaxed evening at Lucky Bay.

Accommodation: Swag camping at Lucky Bay
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Distance travelled: Just 10 minutes around the park

Day 7: Cape Le Grand National Park & Stirling Ranges expand collapse

After packing up camp, we leave Esperance behind and make our way to Twilight Cove, a final chance to soak up those turquoise waters and white sands before heading inland.

The journey today takes us through diverse and ever-shifting landscapes, from open farmland to rugged mountain country, with a stop in Ravensthorpe along the way.

By late afternoon, we arrive in the Stirling Ranges, a place where jagged peaks rise from ancient bushland. Our base tonight is a peaceful private campground at Mt Trio, surrounded by nature.

Accommodation: Swag camping with amenities at Mt Trio in the Stirling Ranges
Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner
Distance travelled: Approximately 500 km

Day 8: Stirling Ranges & South West Coast expand collapse

Fuel up with brekkie before we arrive in the Porongurups, where time slows down and ancient granite peaks rise from the Earth like something out of another world. Hike through towering forest to reach Castle Rock and the Granite Skywalk, a suspended lookout that’ll have your heart racing and your camera working overtime.

Back on the road, cruise along the South West Coast to Albany, where raw cliffs and ocean energy collide at The Gap and Natural Bridge. Then it’s off to Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks, two of the best swimming spots on the south coast when conditions are right.

Towards the end of the day, we head into the forest. Not just any forest, the ancient, misty magic of the Walpole Wilderness Region. You’ll walk beneath the canopy and meet the legendary Giant Tingle Tree, a hollowed-out giant that’s been standing for hundreds of years.

Tonight, we camp surrounded by towering forest at Quinninup.

Accommodation: Swag camping with amenities at Quinninup Eco Tourist Park
Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner
Distance travelled: Around 390 km

Day 9: Quinninup to Margaret River expand collapse

Start your day with purpose by getting hands-on with a meaningful conservation volunteering experience at one of Australia’s leading bird of prey rehabilitation centres. At the renowned Capes Raptor Centre, dedicated to the rescue, care, and rehabilitation of injured, orphaned, and displaced raptors, you’ll have the unique opportunity to connect with majestic birds of prey, including eagles, hawks, falcons, and owls. Roll up your sleeves and join the passionate team behind the scenes, contributing to vital volunteer work that supports the well-being of these incredible creatures.

Then we shift gears and roll into one of WA’s most legendary regions, Margaret River. Wander through the township, with time to explore its quirky boutiques, art galleries, and grab a bite from a local café.

In the afternoon, we mix things up with stops at a couple of handpicked local producers, think wineries, distilleries, chocolate makers, or cheese producers.

By evening, we arrive at our campsite in the Margaret River region, surrounded by forest and close to the coast. Depending on the season and availability, campsites may vary, but each offers the chance to slow down, settle in with the group, and enjoy one final night of camping in Western Australia’s southwest.

Accommodation: Swag camping with amenities at Fair Harvest Permaculture Farm (or RAC Margaret River Nature Park)
Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner
Distance travelled: Around 240 km

Day 10: Margaret River to Perth expand collapse

Roll up your swag one last time and get ready for one of the most powerful experiences of the trip: a cultural journey with Wadandi custodian Josh “Koomal” Whiteland. Begin with a bushwalk through Country, where Josh shares stories of culture, connection, and the six Noongar seasons. Learn how to identify bush foods, native medicines, and how the land provides. Witness the ancient skill of fire lighting, before heading underground into the mesmerising Ngilgi Cave. As you descend, the echoes of Josh’s didgeridoo fill the space, creating a soundscape that’s moving, memorable, and deeply grounding.

Later, we stop in Busselton, where there’s time for a walk along the iconic Busselton Jetty, stretching 1.8km into the water, and a final coffee or snack before the drive back to Perth.

One final road trip stretch has us cruising back into Perth. Hearts full, and plenty of stories to take home.

Meals included: Breakfast
Distance travelled: Around 340 km
