We’ve all been to those corners of the world that are best described as having “a nice personality”. I mean, you wouldn’t call the traffic congestion in Brussels “pretty”, or the piles of rotting garbage on the streets of Cairo “beautiful”. Sure, these places have their own charms, but you have to dig a little deeper to find them.
Australia, on the other hand, wears its beauty firmly on its Ken Done-designed sleeve. We totally suck at being boring, ugly and uninteresting. Dig below the surface and all you’re likely to find is more beauty. Here’s some embarrassing example of times when Australia was just downright show-offy:
1. Litchfield National Park, Northern Territory
I mean, look at this. What a blatant show of beauty. You’d really have to look hard to find anything ugly here. And the smell! Ugh. The the air is so fresh and clean, it’s enough to make you sick.

2. Great Barrier Reef
It can be seen from outer space, is bigger than the UK, Holland and Switzerland combined and stretches for 2,300 kilometres – yet it doesn’t even have a souvenir shop? Please. Spare me.

3. Daintree Rainforest, Queensland
This place is crazy old. Like, around 165 million years old. But it’s not even covered in dust. It’s a bit of a hog as well, containing around 40% of all Australian birds and 28% of all our frogs. Also, the fruit will probably make you fat. Yeah, there’s something here called the Chocolate Pudding Fruit. What next? A donut tree?

4. The Red Centre
Red doesn’t even GO with everything. It clashes horribly with um, green sometimes. And it can be really hard to get a decent photo of the stars here, with all those visible planets and galaxies getting in the way. Stupid exceptionally clear night sky.
